LOS ANGELES (CAP) - Former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff and well-endowed actress Lindsay Lohan have been named co-captains of the 2007 U.S. Celebrity Beer Pong Team. Lohan was a last-minute replacement for former two-time captain Anna Nicole Smith.
"We are going to shock the world," a red shirt and black leather jacket-clad Hasselhoff said at the press conference to announce the team members. "People in other countries are laughing at us right now. They feel American celebrities have been slipping in our drinking prowess. Not. Any. More."
Hasselhoff followed up his breakout 2005-2006 season, during which he was divorced from wife Pamela Bach, with an even more impressive season in 2006-2007, capped by the infamous hamburger video. And not only has Lohan strung together a couple of fantastic seasons, but she has also taken up a hefty off-season regimen.
"The Americans have their work cut out for them, no doubt," said Chic Mommy of the celebrity gossip website, Cele|bitchy. "But they'll do well - clearly, David's had a great year, and Lindsay's one of the emerging young stars in the sport."
Lohan could not be reached for comment because she was passed out in the backseat of a limo. However, her publicist told CAP News that while the young actress is honored to be selected for the team, she actually quit drinking about 10 minutes ago.
Tai Pennington, Paula Abdul, and the always reliable Tara Reid round out the 2007 team, who will compete at this year's World Celebrity Beer Pong Championships in Melbourne, Australia next month. First-round pairings place the squad against the three-time champion Australian team, led by the one-two punch of Mel Gibson and Russell Crowe.
"Listen we have to play whoever is on the schedule," said Hasselhoff when asked about the challenge of playing the Australian team. "This isn't about intelligence, or charisma, or spelling. It's about drinking as much as possible while keeping your wits about you and putting the ball in the cup."
U.S. celebrity beer pong has been on a slide since the early '90s, about when Robert Downey Jr. completed AA.
